Brighton Reasearch trip
We went to Woking Peace Garden, Chattri Memorial and Brighton Pavilion.
Educational trip
We took some young people to see the most talked about exhibition 'Empire of the Sikhs' at SOAS Gallery.
Birmingham Seminar Event
We partnered up with Voices of War and Peace and hosted the community seminar, inviting guest speakers, Dr Priya Atwal, Dr Jagbir Jhutti-Johal and Sheetal & Shirin from SASS.
Exhibition Opening
Journey from Home collaborated with the National Memorial Arboretum, who helped by providing the venue so we could unveil our exhibition. The event was attended by young people and their families of Holly Lodge SchooI, community members, journalists and academies.
Home Office event
The Home Office Sikh Association invited us to present our project. We undertook a workshop, testing their knowledge about South Asian contribution in the First World War.
National Archives and National Army Museum research trip
Visited The National Archives and Army Museum.
Big Ideas Talk
We were invited to speak about how the Journey from Home project has been working with young people. The event was hosted by Big Ideas Company at Senate House.
Western Front trip
Thanks to We Were There Too, young people and volunteers took a trip to the Western Front (France and Belgium). Some of the places we visited are Menin Gate, Neuve Chapelle, Bedford House and more.
People's Procession and WestMinster Abbey Centenary Service
We laid wreaths made by our community groups in Birmingham at the Cenotaph and walked the procession with the Big Ideas team. We were proud to have been asked not only to attend but to be allowed to participate was a once in a life time opportunity.
London Talk
We collaborated with The National Archives to host an event about Indian Contribution in First World War. With guest speakers Kiran Sahota, Amandeep Madra OBE (UKPHA), Amit & Naroop (Turbans & Tales), Paula Kitching (Jews in FWW)
Art workshop
We invited young people to build creative responses for an upcoming exhibition.
Leeds seminar event
We partnered with Leeds Museum to host a community heritage seminar, with guest speakers Major Naveed Mohammed, Paula Kitching, Sarina Kaur, Lucy Moore & Manni Kaur.
House of Commons
Believe in Me CIC was invited to House of Commons to represent the West Midlands for Military projects. This event was hosted by Heritage Lottery Fund.
University of Derby Talk
The Journey from Home project collaborated with Derby university for an evening talk about the contribution made by South Asian Soldiers during First World War.
Interview
Kiran Sahota was interviewed by Dr James Wallis from University of Essex, reflecting on how the project has educated communities and helped young people learn about histories not taught in mainstream education.
